MARK EYRE TO LEAD LIONS OF NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO/NORTHEASTERN MN
Lion Mark Eyre, Cook, Minnesota, was recently elected and was formally inducted as Governor of Lions Clubs International
District 5M-10 during the 100th International Lions Clubs Centennial Convention that was held in Chicago, Illinois,
June 30 – July 4, 2017.
As District Governor, Eyre will lead 44 clubs in Northeastern Minnesota and Northwestern Ontario.
A member of Lions Clubs International since 2004, District Governor Eyre has served as the Cook Lions Club president, vice president, secretary, membership chair, and treasurer. On the district level, he served terms as zone chair, trustee and secretary of the Minnesota Lions Diabetes Foundation, first and second Vice District Governor, and has completed both Lions Regional and Advanced Leadership Institutes and district governor training. Among his many awards, Lion Mark was honored to become a Melvin Jones Fellow and Cook Lion of the Year. He received an International President’s Letter of Commendation, International President’s Award and Certificate of Appreciation. In 2015, he was also presented with the MN Lions Foundation Dream Catcher Award.
“I am looking forward to working with our 44 clubs in District 5M-10. It is an honor to support Lions Clubs throughout our area as we work together to serve those in need within our communities,” said District Governor Eyre.
Eyre graduated from Virginia High School and the University of Minnesota, after which he served in the U.S. Marine Corps in Japan and China. Retired from U.S. Steel in 2003, DG Eyre soon began his service to Lionism. He lives in the home he built on Lake Vermilion with his wife Phyllis, and has one daughter and one granddaughter who live in Florida.
A true Northern Minnesota outdoorsman, DG Mark enjoys family, fishing, hunting, camping, downhill and cross-country skiing, curling, and snowmobiling - or just sitting on the dock by the lake.

Since 1917 it has been known for its many local community service projects. Lions Clubs support programs throughout the world having to do with vision and hearing loss, diabetes research, youth development, Special Olympics and disaster relief.
