District Governor Mel Milender

BEMIDJI LION INDUCTED AS NEW DISTRICT GOVERNOR

MEL MILENDER TO LEAD LIONS OF NORTHEASTERN MN/ NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO

DULUTH, MN, USA, July 27, 2016 - Lion Mel Milender, Bemidji, Minnesota, was recently inducted as Governor of Lions Clubs International District 5M-10 during the 99th International Lions Clubs Convention in Fukuoka, Japan, attended by over 35,000 Lions from around the world.

As District Governor, Milender will lead 43 clubs in Northeastern Minnesota and Northwestern Ontario.

A member of Lions Clubs International since 2009, District Governor Milender has served as the Bemidji Lions Club president, vice president, membership chair, board member, and District 5M-10 zone and cabinet chair. In addition, he served terms as first and second Vice District Governor, completed Lions Leadership Institute, district governor training and earned the Guiding Lion Certification. Milender succeeds Past District Governor Bill Michl of the Fort Frances Ontario Lions Club.

"I am looking forward to meeting and interacting with the 43 clubs and members in my District It is an honor to support Lions Clubs International, its Foundation, Youth Outreach and Diabetes initiatives", said District Governor Milender.

Milender, a retired Military Intelligence Officer and Vietnam Veteran, currently serves as the Town Board Supervisor, Rural Fire Association Treasurer, and Director of the Minnesota Association of Townships. He lives in Bemidji, Minnesota, with his wife, Lion Mary Lou. They have four children and 8 grandchildren.

Lions Club International is the world's largest service organization of over 46,000 local clubs and more than 1.4 million members in 212 countries. Since 1917 it has been known for its many local community service projects. Lions Clubs support programs throughout the world having to do with vision and hearing loss, diabetes research, youth development, Special Olympics and disaster relief.
